Case dealer list

Hello everyone, I'm working on the Case dealer list once again. If anybody has any recollection of a Case dealer in their past history, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. The last 2 weeks I have been focusing on Iowa and have picked up several dealers through local libraries and historical societies. Also, if anybody would like to see the current list I would be happy to send it to you. Thanks for your help with this 14 year project. Don

Don, Do you have anything from Oskaloosa, IA. I know there were a couple (at different times) but I can't recall names. I think I could come up with them if you don't already have them. ADB

My uncle owned a little tavern/repair shop in St Wendel Minnesota. It's located north west of St Cloud about 10 miles. The man before him had a case dealer ship there from the 20s until he sold in 1964.

Wall - Tjossem Motor Co Gaza, Iowa. In business at least as early as mid 1940's through 1960's. Gaza is a small village in O'Brien county in northwest Iowa. Dad got several items of machinery there. I remember they had Case, Minneapolis-Moline and Chrysler and Plymouth cars. As with a lot of small town dealers their new and used inventory was very limited.

ADB,

I have a Wake Implement until 1954 and a Case Power and Equipment store. That's all the info I've got so far. Don

At one time there was a Case dealer in Plymouth WI, 53073. Do you show that one? I don't recall the name, I can ask around if you don't have it on your list.

Paul

Paul,

Was it Leonard Simonsmeier? Hwy 23 West of Plymouth? Also John Krupp, same location, may have been a son-in-law. Please let me know if this is correct. Don

My Dad used to always talk about a couple local Case dealers. My Grandpa bought a new VAC back in the day. Don't know much about them. That was before my time.

Wilson Equipment in Lexington, Kentucky. (Still a Case construction equipment dealer).

Bobbitt and Hudson in Paris, Kentucky.

Service Motor Co. Dale. Wi. In the 70s they had a sign out front saying they were the biggest Case dealer in the world. Opened in 1916.

Van Zealand Imp in Kaukauna Wi.

Don,

The book "Sherrard Centennial 1896-1996" under the paragraph "Merchants 1934-1960" Lists an "A. Floyd Anderson, Sherrard Farm Store, JI Case Dealer"
I have seen a picture of this dealership. I need to remember where and I will send it to you if I can find it.

Interestingly, same book, same paragraph, lists C.A. Samuelson, Minneapolis-Moline Farm Implements.

Sherrard Illinois is a small town about 10 miles south of Moline Illinois (home of the green ones).

Keep up the good work Don

Don, what dealers do you have for the state of Virginia? How about Elliott Auto Supply in Nassawadox, VA? Not sure that is the correct name but my Dad bought a 730 from them around 1966.

Dad said that Grandpa bought his 54 DC4 from Herbaugh's in Thedford Nebraska. I am not sure if they were an actual dealer, or maybe a sub dealer of sorts. I do know they sold a bunch of DCs along with Case sickle mowers.

Thanks Don and Mark. I thought I remembered my dad saying Wakes Feed sold Case early on. And my brother bought a 970 and a 1175 from Case Power and Equipment in the '70's. I came across the obituary of the manager of the store back then. ADB

My brother lives at Fyre Lake near Sherrard. He works for Vermeer Midwest in Moline. Small world indeed. When I bought my SC the seller and I met at the Vermeer shop on a Saturday and transferred the tractor from his trailer to mine. Security came out and it took a little to convince them that we were actually conducting proper business. ADB

Don:
Reddish Bros Implement
Lincoln, NE
Large dealer, went out with merger

Alfs Implement & Irrigation
John Alfs owner
Shickley, NE
3rd & 4th generation still operate the well drilling business

Wilson Implement
Fairfield, NE

Anderson Implement
Ong, NE

All CASE dealers in the 40s through the 70s.

I don't know who you have on your list from Michigan, but one old one is the Charles P. Dynes Implement Company of Corunna, MI. Chuck (my mother's cousin) was a dealer from the late 1940's through the late 1960's or early 1970's. He was also my father's vo-ag teacher at Owosso High School prior to that. That dealership later became S & W Equipment, and was finally purchased by a gentleman named Roy Freund, who was my brother-in-law's father-in-law.

Don, if it isn't too big of a pain, I am sure a lot of us would love to see your dealer computation. I know I sure would!!

Thank you for all the additional info. I did have S and W., but no other details. Did Freund make it to the merger in 1985? Don

I'd be happy to send you the list, but your email is not open. Send me an email and I'll get it to you. Don

Did you ever see the wood signs with everybody who bought a tractor from Van Zeeland? Thanks for posting. Don

Don, what you have is what I found with a few phone calls. I have inquiries into the local historical societies and will let you know what else I find. Paul

Paul,

Yeah - I live right in town and we farm on the next east-west road to the south.

3 mi south of Viola...so I'll bet your at the place with the big red hangar looking building just south of the river and east of the highway...? I've seen a lot of Desert Sunset lurking on that place over the years. Yep small world!

Take Care

On a post once I found a members map, but have never seen where that is on the site here (as far as what to click on).....maybe on Modern View....Not everyone is on it but it is kind of neat to see where a lot of these guys are from.

Paul,

Thank you very much. I also have a Richard Rehm in Franklin (Sheboygan county) and Risse Implement in Silver Creek in case you find anything on those dealers. Don

Don here are some more. Haag is only about 20 miles southwest of me. I think they where closed after the thirty series. There was also an IH dealer in this same little town that our H and M came from new.

There was one in Corunna Michigan, my grandpa bought a new 1969 case 1030, still has the dealer stickers on it of you would like pictures.

Was it Ralph Hays Implement? He switched to IH in 1967 and seemed to do quite well. I bought a narrow front for a 400 from him several years ago. Don

As I sit at my desk I am looking at a calendar from Wildermuth Farm Service in Maplewood, Ohio from 1953. Is this the dealer you are referring to? Thanks, Don

Case Power and equipment Indianola Iowa--Jim Jet manager. closed up mid 80's. 1 in Winterset Iowa, Ill try to post the name. Will surely remember it later. 1 in Murray Iowa, I never did know the name.

Here is what I got from the Sheboygan Historical Society:

"Hi Paul,
It was Simonsmeier Case, once located just east of Valley House on P west of Plymouth. And you were right, it's now on the north frontage road. The buildings are still there. First farm east of P about a 1/4 of a mile east."

When she says frontage road she means frontage road to Hwy 23. Hwy 23 was reconstructed some years ago with a mix of controlled and un-controlled access.

Paul

That doesn't sound familiar but its been a long time.
I'll see if I have a receipt from when I bought some valve stem boots from them in the early 90's.

I think it would be. Never knew the name of the business but know some of later members of family. The other one at Wapakoneta would be Berlet Farm Service or something like that. The son still runs the business as an independant shop with the 80? some Dad still helpimg as he can.

I could porbably get more information if you would want it. I don't normally look at this section and had forgotten to check if you answered and that is why so late. Usually just tractor talk and implements.

I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT FIND THIS INTERESTING. HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY DADS CASE DEALERSHIP IN THE LATE 50'S. THE PICTURE IS FROM KEY CHAINS HE WOULD GIVE HIS CUSTOMERS. THE ADDRESS IS ALTOONA, ALABAMA BUT THE DEALERSHIP WAS ACTUALLY IN SNEAD, ALABAMA. NOTICE THE FOUR DIGIT PHONE NUMBER.
