Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and to most tractors. I just sold some old cars to buy some tractors to restore. I have a JD, couple of Fords, 8n and Jubilee and a MD 10-20. But I just happened across a Case 730 and bought it mainly because I thought it would look very good repainted with new decals and base coat-clear coat. The 730 really looks good fixed up. But I don't know anything about the Case 730 and maybe should have looked into them before I bought it. I just really like it. I have a little under 2K in it. But was wondering, are they a good tractor? Were they a good dependable tractor? Were they popular in their day? Its a gas tractor. I am in south Alabama and don't believe I have ever seen one around here. Im not saying that theres not one some where around here. I just don't remember ever seeing one. Thanks for any thoughts, good or bad. Mark

Very popular. Countless variations.
Low tin, High tin and Comfort King. In
each of those variations there's gas,
diesel and LP. Also rowcrop, standard,
wheatland, highcrop and orchard
variations. Rowcrop variations of dual
front wheel and adjustable wide front.
Also transmission options of 8 speed
standard or case-o-matic. Rear wheel
options of solid cast wheel, cast
spoked wheel and Power shift wheels.
Case also made a crude cab option for
the early models. What's not to love?
They also had the Eagle Hitch on the
early models. Standard 3pt on the
later ones. I could go on.
Differences in gauges, shifters,
levers, seats, tins/decals, paint etc.
It's a wonder you ever see two set up
identically the same. Seems to me the
majority of them are gas but I don't
know for sure. There's stats out there
somewhere on that. Maybe somebody can
comment on this who knows, but farmers
who could afford to buy up for the
diesel usually bought up to an 830
anyway making the 730 gasser the more
economical buy for those with tight
purse strings.

Not a better looking tractor out there than Dessert Sand over Flambeau red. Welcome to the Case forum. Keep us updated with pictures of the 730 project. gobble

They sure can be pretty....especially. if right side up! Ben

Straw boss, i couldn't agree more. my uncle was the tightest guy i knew, he bought a 730 gas off the lot, a 8 speed, wide front, used that tractor for everything, but not a loader. He didn't even had a plow for it at the time, and borrowed our 4-14's.

I forgot that one. You have to drop all your weights and chloride to make it work though. :)

I did fail to mention the optional 1000 rpm pto, single front wheel, radiator shutter, belt pulley, hydraulic jack, 108 inches axles, muffler extension and cigarette lighter along with a few other options too numerous to mention.

I have to agree. Best two-tone paint scheme out there. And we do like pictures here on the Case forum. Here's a pair of wheatlands I took to the show at Andover SD this past fall. A 730 LP and an 830 Diesel.

For under $2,000 you have a very good tractor. Your 730 descended from the 1955 Case 400 design and the late 1950's 700 and 800 tractors. Several generations of 730's were built from about 1960 thru 1969. Post a picture or serial number to pin point which version you have. To me, they are a simple but sturdy and reliable tractor that is easy to maintain. If your tractor has a Case-O-Matic transmission it may handle a lot differently than your other tractors. An owner's manual will explain a lot.
