Hello Gentlemen,
I recently bought 4 of the newer style RPS34 pistons from a salvage company for a 970 PS rebuild. I see 2 of the small pistons have several cracks in the outside (not the oil pressurized) face. Hopefully I attached a picture here...I would imagine they are just surface cracks, as cast aluminum will do sometimes. There are no cracks visible on the opposite sides.
Have any of you fellows noticed this before on a rebuild? If so, would you not use these and get new ones? Are these pistons ever known to fail due to cracking? I'm a bit hesitant to use these unless this is commonly noted and disregarded.
Thanks as always for the good help!
