Out Tractor club at Pottsville has a big show on fathers day week end and we usually have a small engine or tractor to raffle off. This year were
doing a restored 1 hp IH motor and an antique farmall kids pedal tractor. Yesterday I picked up a 53 Massey Harris model 44 tractor and. MH
three bottom plow that a gentleman gave us for our 2018 show. We will, we'll probably I will restore it for next years show. We're in Oregon, this
tractor came from Kansas 16 years ago. It ran a couple years ago and has been stored in a barn. Dick

I always liked the Massey Harris line, but don't know much about them. I thought when they came out with the 3-point hitch, the model number was changed to 444?

3 pt was available on late 33 and 44 models. Triple digit series had a better system with the lower pto shaft. Looks like a 44 Special to me. Ben

There was a very active Massey-Harris dealer south of here about 15 miles. They were very common is his sales area. He did not survive as a Massey-Ferguson dealer for some reason. I always thought they were a pretty good machine. Keep us posted with pictures as you restore it. Don

Cast front and rear wheel centre's, throttle placement, roller drawbar, few little things .... check the stamping on the front upper right of the block, should be stamped H277 if its the original correct engine.Ben

Don, Who had the Massey-Harris dealership 15 miles south of you? I assume that was in Algoma. We had a Massey-Harris dealer in Tisch Mills but I think they went out of business about in 1960. My dad never had any Massey-Harris tractors, but he did buy a new Gehl chopper from him around 1955. Al

ooh , a 44 special. they are a longer wheel base tractor than the straight 44, bigger 277 engine and other improvements. i have 3 specials in the standard line.

Hello Al!

The dealer I'm referring to was Reince Implement in Maplewood, WI about 6 or 7 miles south of Sturgeon Bay. There was still about 30 tractors on that property until they were scrapped about 5 years ago. Most of them were complete and had all the sheet metal. He had MH tractors on many farms in southern Door County. The next MH dealer I know of was in Ellisville, Reikelberg Implement. I know that because I saw a yardstick from there a few years ago. Did not know there was one in Tisch Mills. Don

Hope you can get her back on line, then post a pic when you get her back on her feet.

Don, The Massey-Harris dealer in Tisch Mills was Fabian Implement. I kind of knew that there was a Massey dealer in Ellisville. He must have gone out of business in the 50s too. I think there also was a Chevrolet dealer in the same building. Who ever owns it now still has an older Massey-Harris tractor with a loader near that building. If I see one of Fred Reckelburg's sons at a tractor show, I will ask if the owner was of some relation. Fred passed away a couple of years ago and he had a large Case steamer with a sawmill that he would always setup at the Chilton show. Maybe he even brought it to your show in Door County.

And no I didn't know there was a Massey dealer in Maplewood. But back about 1990 my brother-in-law bought a MM GB 6-cylinder diesel from that row of tractors that had been standing there for many years. He got it running and restored. So that one was saved from the scrap man. I will send you a picture of it when I get a chance. Al

Al,

Many years ago some friends of mine bought a new set of steel wheels for a NI horse drawn manure spreader from a former NI dealer, I believe in Tisch Mills. Would that have been Fabian? Don

Don,

Yes, Fabian also had the New Idea dealership. And I forgot, but my dad also bought a New Idea side rake from them. I think it might have been around 1948/1949 as I was just a little kid about 4 or 5 years old when he got it. I still have it and occasionally use it to rake some oats straw to make a few bales. An almost 70 year old rake and it still works. Al
