2594 stuck in gear

For Rod or the other Case mechanics, dad's 2594 is stuck in 4th gear. We pulled the side plate off and the 3-4 shift fork is worn but the shift collar is stuck on 4th gear. We tried to pry it over but it is stuck tight. The resident case mechanic said the older ones would break the thrust washers and they would fall into the middle of the shift collar but could be pryed to neutral and be usable until there was time to fix. He never seen a 94 series do it. Was wondering if you guys have ever heard or seen anything like this and if there is anything else we can try before it goes to town.
We are getting short of tractors this winter, water pump went on the 2094 and none to be had in the case system we were told so had to get one online. Radiator went on the 3294 and was out for a week since there is 1 radiator shop in all of western ND. Down to the 32 on the tmr and loading with the cabless 480e while the 2094 waits for the water pump. Wwn it rains it pours i guess.
The 25 has been a great horse for us and has been used hard for many years but cost very little. Just seems silly to have something like this happen when it's had a pretty easy life for the past 5 or so years. It has about 8000 hrs if that helps at all.

I have seen that happen a couple times. The thrust washer gets loose on the shaft and its outer edge can fall into the center of the shift collar. Like you mentioned locks it into gear. Without forcing the collar you can jack up and turn a rear wheel slowly while someone continues trying to shift it out of gear. Sometimes the washer will drop back out momentarily and it will allow you to shift back into neutral. But if the edge of the washer gets bent a bit from trying to force the collar past it will never drop back down. I have never been able to force the collar back to nuetral, but I never really tried very hard either. Unfortunately it is a big job to replace those darn washers also. Like you said, when it rains it pours, Rod.

I forgot to mention I have only seen this happen to the 23-2590's, never on a 94 but there are very few in this area. Rod.

we have one that jumps out of 1-2 gears = a parts tractor =not worth the work to do all what it takes to fix it.

im thinking there was a recall to fix that problem on the 90 series, way back when , I remember Case fixing a 23 I had they said it was the washers in there had been giving them problems , only time that tractor ever saw a dealer shop in 9000 hours I think, never heard of it happening on a 94 though ,

Thanks Rod, we tried turning a tire while applying light pressure to the fork but no dice. I don't know how hard dad yanked on the shift lever trying to get it out before we pulled the side cover so ithat couldbe slightly bent. At least it's 4th gear, said it will take 1.5 to 2 hours to drive it to town. If we had cement in one of the sheds we would take it on ourselves but dirt only and even being inside the wind will still make dust on everything. It does need park fixed also and have been kicking that can down the road almost a year so it's a good excuse to fix it now.
