Looking to buy a DC seat, my tractor is 1953 so is tractor I'm buying seat off, don't have original to compare, but I thought all late DCs had torsion seat with rubber biscuit, seat I'm buying appears to have dual spring in seat base like early ones, but has live pto setup, please all school me on DC seats, I think this is a good deal and correct, but parts book shows diff, help........Dusty

Dusty,

The 1953 foot clutch tractors I own all have the torsion spring seat. The 1952 tractors I own all have the dual compression spring seats. I'm not sure what the 1953 hand clutch tractors have. My GUESS is that the 1953 hand clutch tractors may not have received the newer style seats, unlike the foot clutch, reworked tractors. Anybody else have info? Don

so I'd assume there were 3 styles, early dual
Compression type, dual compression type with live pto, the torsion type with live pto, parts book only shows early and late, but I've receive pics of this seat I'm looking at, it's a dual compression with live pto and supposed to be off a 1953,
Dusty

In the book Full Steam Ahead by Dave Erb and
Eldon Brumbaugh, it says that by May of 52,
the rubber torsion was made standard on all
S and D models. I wouldn't accept this as
gospel, but I believe I have seen 52's with
this seat. Also, build years began in
October or November of previous calendar
year, so by May of 52, as much as 7 months
of tractors had been produced. I would
believe tractors were still being equipped
with the older style Suspension beyond this
date to some extent.
