I am looking at buying a Case 2290 with an 8 speed standard transmission and the tractor will only move if you engage the diff. lock. Any ideas whats wrong with it and what it would cost to fix it and about now much a tractor like this would be worth. The tractor has always sat outside and looks it, fair tires and AC doesn't work, the engine has about 200 hours on rebuild. Thanks. Mark

I just bought a 2290 with the same problem. It quit moving altogether though. The differential pin broke in it. With all used parts in it i am going to have about $3500-$4000. If you can't repair it yourself it's probably not worth fixing. Need several special tools to do the job. If you pull the pto housing you might be able to see if the pin is broken. Depending on how bad the differential is messed up i would say $2500-$3000 for the tractor. The salvage yard guys say this was a problem on the 2090 and 2290 tractors.I decided to fix this because its an 8 speed no cab with about 3000 hours on the tractor. About 15 years ago the previous owner put about $20,000 in this tractor.
