Case DC-3 Serial number/year of Manufacture

Hello everyone, I'm trying to find out what year a DC was made, I looked up the serial number on tractordata.com from the tag in between the guages. According to them the first one was made in 1939 starting with 4300001. The number on this tractor is 423899DC. I had to spit polish the tag so perhaps I didn't clean it up good enough. Any input would be appreciated, thank you

My guess is you are missing the first digit. It is often hiding
under the screw head.

I'm guessing your first two digits are either 44 or 54. You
subtract 4 from the first two digits.

You have either a 1940 or 1950

Can you take a toothbrush and a little toothpaste and scrub the tag again. Also check the serial number that is also stamped on the left side of the motor. On the flange .It mates up to the transmission flange. Those numbers should match the tag, unless the motor has been swapped out. You may have to scrape the paint on the motor flange to expose the stamped number. Please repost your findings to us. This should get you the answer you seek. Best of luck CM

Thank you all for your knowledge and tips. I remember not cleaning by that screw head and I will do so tomorrow If I get time, and I will certainly post my findings and a picture of it if anyone would like. Just fired it up today for the first time in 5 or so years. She's the first tractor I ever drove as a little boy so it is very special to me. She deserves to get some special love and care as all the old Iron does.

The first DC built was serial # 4300656. I have heard it still exists and is owned by a collector. Nick

well, first digit is a 5 and half covered by that screw, so that makes er a 1950, when I was a kid I was always told it had 3 speeds and never thought anything of it. Yesterday I found a 4th, Doesn't seem to be quite as fast as My Farmall M in 5th but it was still a joy to open it up that fast. I was in heaven. haha.

Thank you, she's been worked hard, but she's still pretty. Can anyone recommend a good owner/service manual reprint that has the distributor included? I found one on Ebay but only has magneto information for the ignition. Also any recommendations for a good Case history book? It wasn't until recently I found out the story behind the Case eagle "Old Abe" so I figure there's just gotta be a lot more cool things to learn about this company.

as for a service manual I myself like the one still sold by CIH today but there are decent reprints too this site may well offer one

maybe , but at least your thumbs have a fiting chance if the ol boy slides into a plow furrow and whips the steering wheel ,,. my DC cranks about 1800 rpm , I know that's too fast . I don't hold it there , and I instruct others that the extra overrev is for only pulling hills , kinda like the ol b-17s that had overrev power for emergencies . it has lucas in the oil,. which causes trouble with the wet clutch in cold weather,. when on the haybine I run about 3/4 throttle

could someone post a year-serial number list, and why were the latter ones 80 prefix unlike the rest, thanks a lot
Dusty
