The ultimate tractor ride

Do any of you guys remember back in the late 70's early 80's there was an article in one of the farm magazines about a guy that drove his 1370 from coast to coast? It was an early yellow open station tractor. From what I remember he overhauled the engine in the winter and thought he would break it in on the road. Since the tires were almost shot he thought he could just as well run them bald on the road. Since he was strictly a grain farmer he made the trip in the spring when us livestock guys are busy. He told of some chilly mornings on the road, and of getting the tractor up to 50 MPH + on a few long down hills. Do any of you remember this? Do any of you know who it was? Seems to me it took a short month to make the trip.

Google tells us the Harris brothers did it on a 1370 Case in a little over ten days. Wrapped a canvas around the tractor for a wind break in the cold desert nites. Had a extra fuel tank on the 3 point hitch. Drove 24 hours and pulled a van. One slept and one drove. Might not be the same as you remember.

I do remember the article. I do not know who the guys were that drove the tractor though. I believe there was a picture of the tractor with it's front wheels touching the water of the ocean, but I do not know which coast they were on, east or west. Very interesting article back then. I would really like to read it today again.

I remember the article too, i think that's about the time farm crisis hit, and all the guys had that tractor cade to Washington DC.

Your story reminded me of freewheeling down a hill on a tractor ride. I got that SC traveling so fast the front end started to hop severely. I'm not going to do that again!
