2290 Diff Lock

My 2290 when I step down on the diff lock will go down. It does not engage the diff lock however. When I step on either brake, it releases the diff lock lever and the lever pops back up. It don't matter if the PTO is on or off. It appears in the manual the oil comes through the PTO valve to the diff lock valve and then into rear end housing. Any ideas or suggestions?

More than likely the valve and oil flow is OK if your PS and PTO operate properly. You could follow the line from the valve to the lower RH rear area of the
trans, there where it attaches to the trans you could disconnect it. With the diff lock on it will squirt oil, be prepared to shut it off quickly. Or you could
hook a 300 psi gauge to the line to check it with out making a mess. A supply of pressurized oil means to problem is in the tractor and removal of the diff. assy.
is necessary to repair. Most of the time that is where the problem is. Rod.

What normally goes wrong inside and what is the cost normally? I understand the labor varies and such but just wondering parts wise? I will try to do myself. Can I access it with just removing pto?

you have to remove both axle housings and pto for starters it is a Bear getting the diff assembly R&R'ed you will also need good safe stands to hold it, not a normal farm shop repair
