Dave, were the worm gear and the "3 spot gear mechanism" previously mated, or are you replacing one of them? The reason I am asking is there is a RH worm gear and a LH worm gear. If memory serves, the difference is one is used for the General Purpose tractors and the other is used for the Utility tractors. - Joe

Replaceing the gear that has 2 points with one that has 3 points. They look the same except for the extra point on the replacement one.Tried to adjust the new one by shimming the gear up some but it did not help much.Dave A

It would be helpful to know what model 300 you have. The following applies to roundnose model 310 & 311 wfe although it probably is the same or similar to the other 300 models. The pics here are model 310.

Pic 1, as Joe stated the cam needs to match the tractor model.

Pic 2, the 3 stud lever is slightly wider than the 2 stub but that is compensated by the lash adjustment.

Pic 3 & 4, is the lash adjustment plug and screw.

Pic 5 is the lever with studs installed.

To install, back off the lash adjustment screw all the way. Make sure the lash adjuster plug is free in the bore.

Put the lever on the vertical shaft, no shims, and insert the roll pin. Turn the wheels straight ahead.

Turn the steering wheel to center and the cam to near match for installing and connecting the universal at the steering shaft.

Install the cover and follow the last pic directions for adjusting the lash.
