Beginning a rebuild on an early 970 Powershift. I've found some discussion in the archives about the RPS34 C1 gear/disk or hub assembly. I see much discussion about riveting on a new disk. On my hub, there are no rivets holding the disk to the hub. The disk is splined, and held on to the gear by 2 rings (1 either side of the disk) that look to be brazed (to themselves) to keep secure. The disk appears to be exactly the same as the 2nd C1 sintered disk A142536 which is not captive to the gear. Looking on the parts site, of course, the gear/disk needs to be purchased as an assembly. Small fortune. My question is, is there any reason the ring cannot be freed, and a new A142536 disk slipped on the gear, and re-braze the ring? Is the A142536 disk is the same? It sure looks to be??
Thanks for any advice!
