970 C1 Gear/Hub Assembly

Beginning a rebuild on an early 970 Powershift. I've found some discussion in the archives about the RPS34 C1 gear/disk or hub assembly. I see much discussion about riveting on a new disk. On my hub, there are no rivets holding the disk to the hub. The disk is splined, and held on to the gear by 2 rings (1 either side of the disk) that look to be brazed (to themselves) to keep secure. The disk appears to be exactly the same as the 2nd C1 sintered disk A142536 which is not captive to the gear. Looking on the parts site, of course, the gear/disk needs to be purchased as an assembly. Small fortune. My question is, is there any reason the ring cannot be freed, and a new A142536 disk slipped on the gear, and re-braze the ring? Is the A142536 disk is the same? It sure looks to be??
Thanks for any advice!

Yes you have a old style C-1 sun gear. The disc are the same so if you can reuse the snap ring or fine a different one to install it will work fine. CASE brazed the rings to make sure they would not come off and then balanced them, that is why they only sold them as a unit. I have replaced the disc's on many and have never found the fact that they were not balanced to be a issue. Rod.

Thanks Rod-
Great, that's what I was hoping. Is there anywhere a guy would find the acceptable tolerance of these disks? I'm missing it if it is in the Case manual...My C1 and C4's are rough and I plan to replace those, but the C2 and C3 disks look good and am considering reusing them if they are within spec.
Thanks for your help!

I do not know if there is specs for those C2+C3 disc. The disc's in c2 will normally be worn a little more than C3 because C2 is slipped a little every time the tractor is started out. I compare them to a new disc and if there is more than .015 gone I replace them. Rod.
