Case 830 heads

I have a bad exhaust valve in my 830/841 case and I am looking into replacing it. I have found remanufactured heads with seats and guides for 350, exhaust valves for 91 dollars and intake valves were less. I haven't Forum's a source for the seats so I could just have these heads reworked. Does anyone here know of a source for valve seats, and maybe lower priced valves?

P.S. When I had the manifold off one stem was caked with black crud, that cylinders plug gets fouled and the rockers are caked in carbon.

If the rockers are getting carbon on them the exhaust guide must be worn badly allowing excessive leakage past them. Having a single cylinder foul a plug generally means oil leaking past the rings and would create excessive carbon build up on the exhaust valve. Any machine shop doing cly head work should be able to source any valve seat you might need. Rod.

I have found that my local machine shop can usually get the parts for less money than I can find them. I have them install the seats, and rough cut them. I do the balance of the work myself. Bruce might chime in with more information.

The valves are an OEM part I believe that's why they are so expensive. The seats should be able to be matched up once they are out. When I am putting seats in some time it is easier to put in a different seat if the OEM seat is an odd ball of some kind. After all of the years it's hard to say if the seats are the original ones. I run into that problem all of the time. I would repair your heads if they are crack free. Otherwise you might end up with some that have been welded up. Good luck.

From the compression reading, I assume you are working on an 830 gas. CASE did not use a replaceable intake seat. The head casting itself was ground to form a seat. When that seat became unuseable, a shop would machine that area & install a replaceable seat. As you found, Exhaust valves are expensive, CASE list is $86.65. Intakes are much less. The replaceable exhaust seat is readily available, and a reputable shop will be able to match up an intake seat. The question is, which will be best in the long run? I grew tired of "Re-manufactured" heads because sometimes, the guides & seats were in worse shape than the original head I was working on. We can supply everything but the Intake seat for your heads.
