Case SC brakes

The r/h brake on my SC wouldn't release. Tore it apart and the brake linings are oil soaked. Can anyone tell me if you can remove the carrier without pulling the top off of the tractor? The service manual said you had to remove the top cover to hold the differential up.I assume that the seal is no big deal to change once out, but not sure about the o ring on installation. Thanks in advance!

There must be an early and late version of the brakes. I have a 41, 42, and two 45 sc and none have o rings. If one side is still assembled, adjust brake where it can be set TIGHT and set brake. That will hold the shaft very close to alignment. Get two bolts 4-5" and cut of head. screw into brake mount holes. This will hold all the shims and helps align the brake casting on reassembly. Clean the brake shaft so electrical tape will stick. Wrap starting inside to out edge and then grease. This will protect the seal in assembly. Pull and unwrap tape. I would check bearing clearence before disassembly so you can reduce shim stack for adjustment. the seals and brake disc's are available from YT Mag or external_link 315-585-9826.

I done both brakes on my 1950 SOwith out removing the top. I used a pop can over the splines on the shaft to. Protect the seal when I installed new brakes and seals.

Do one side at a time and it wont be an issue. It will drop down when you pull it off but no big deal it cant go no were.Do like previously stated with the can or tape the splines Remove the old seals and install new seals 2 on each side I used two cheap 8 inch bolts cut off the heads lift it up get it started and slide it home it will go straight in. No need to pull the top cover. Like stated there a drain hole that should be open on each side so the pads wont get full of oil.
Best of luck with it Byron

(quoted from post at 02:56:14 12/30/16) On a 41 SC is there two seals on each side or one ?

Drawing shows only one on each side Dennis see link

I've never pulled a late model apart so maybe someone who has may clarify that for ya.
Best of luck Byron.
