My Case VAC let me down sort of

So the other day I wet out to move some hay with the Ford 841S. I figured since I had to walk by the VAC I might as well start the VAC and let it run for a few minutes. So I turn on the gas and the ignition switch and it would spin over just fine but no fire. Pulled the distributor cap off and checked the points. No spark at the points when I opened and closed them by hand. So I hot wire it and it fires up. So I flip the ignition switch on and pull the hot wire and it dies. Hot wire it again and start it back up. Flip the ignition switch on and off a few times and pull the hot wire again. This time it stays running. So I flip it on and off a few times and some times it stays running some time it does not. Guess next time I'm in town I need to buy a new toggle switch for it. Point gap also looks to be a bit wide so guess I need the check that.
So am I correct that the point gap should be 0.025??

rich ,,. that is just a typical case tractor with an attitude , a new switch is definitely in order .. pop and his uncles loved case tractor letter series and swore by them and sometimes at them , one of dads uncles swore that case built a personality into every tractor that rolled off the line ,, Great uncle Les had 2 SCs and a DC he called the OLD
Gentleman,. the DC never let him down, but the SCs?,,. well , he called one a he and the other a she,. one ran like a real Case Should the other was prissy and whiney and lazy ,.. but all his VACs were real fighters ..

Thanks. When I looked at the points the other day they looked more like they where up a 1/8 inch maybe a tad bit more so figured it was to wide

I don't think I would put a toggle switch back on it. I bought a heavy duty push/pull switch for the Farmall at NAPA. Don't buy the cheap push/pull switches either. John Saeli (external_link.com) may carry the correct switch for the VAC.

I'll probably go with a toggle switch but it will be a marine grade so as to hold up to water and what all a tractor sitting in a field would be in
