Update thus far with 1690 with no clutch pedal

RG and Bob. I drained all of that brake fluid out and removed the master and slave cylinder. When I opened them up oh my word. Looked like they were full of rust colored mud. I can?t believe that they ever worked. They must have been in bad shape a long time. The brake system seems to be working great but just to be safe I am going to pick up some of the mineral oil and thoroughly flush out the brake lines and reservoir and replace with new clean fluid that I know for sure is the correct thing for nothing else for peace of mind. I have parts on order for the clutch cylinders and I think it will be above freezing here in MO so I will try and flush the brakes then. This tractor is a little too large to fit into my nice warm shop so it?s out on the cold ground I work on this one. Thank you guys for all of your help. Will try and keep you up dated.

Did you determine, for sure, that "mineral oil brake fluid" was correct for the brake system, I remember a couple of posters questioning that.

The brake resevoir has the green cap as the manual describes so i am assuming so. On the clutch the cap is clear but who knows it may have changed or lost at somepoint along the way. Whatever was in the clutch just turned the rubber seals to goo.

Hey Paul, I don't own a 1690, so I can't speak from personal experience with regard to the proper brake fluid. But I can tell you that the owner's manual for the Case / David Brown 1690 and the COMPLETE factory repair manual for the 1690 are at the following google site, free of charge and no registration required. All the info you need should be there. Download away!

https://sites.google.com/site/deerebrown/

There's a ton of manuals that cover other David Brown models there also. Good luck.
