I just bought a 870. I'm looking on Ebay for shop, service manuals. Now I'm really confused. I see service manuals for $149 & shop I&T manuals as cheap as $10. I don't ever plan to get in to deep on mechanical work meaning overhaul the engine or tranny but I want to adjust the brakes, valves, tune it up ect. I don't have a problem with $149 but I want to buy the right manual the first time. What do I need. Thanks Gerald

I would buy the $149 manual. Having worked on tractors all my life, I very seldom use a I+T manual. The factory manual is worth every dime they cost. Rod.

There are two "originals" (dirty but that's what I prefer, not re-prints) One for buy-it-now $ 60.00 free ship and another for buy it now $ 89.99 and 8.85 ship. yes you are always taking a chance there is a page torn/dirty but I've heard of new reprints having print/pics so pale you could barely make them out. The originals also have the clear vinyl over-lay pages as the one on e-bay has pics of. re-pops don't. I sold a whole set of originals for 70 series a couple yrs ago and trust me that's what you want. Good luck shoppin'.

I might have a "used" OEM service manual, if your interested. Weather here is kinda bad, and manual is out at the farm, just in case your in a hurry.

Do not waste your money on a IT. You'll find it covers the entire series, in a few poorly printed pages. Will be no help. The aftermarket reprints are not worth it either. I bought one for my 1070, and the powershift section, mostly pics looks like it was copied off a 1970 copy machine. Extremely poor printing, no resolution you can seldom follow where the arrow on the pics is pointing. I found mine thru Old Abe News, one of the lit dealers. Factory books are offset printed, sharp and the best to be found. They too, have their issues, but followup on the ones below and buy Factory

Guess I did have one.

Well, I guess I'm going against the flow here, BUT you said you only want to do minor repairs, so I would just look at the repairs you mentioned such as brake adjustment, use some common sense and free up all moveing parts so they move easily and have a bit of freeplay on brake rod and go from there.
The brain trust on here will guide you through anything from engine overhaul to seat suspension issues. A cheap IT manual will give you an oversite on repairs.

I just picked up one for a 970 on e-bay last week. Probably the same seller if you just bought one too. Around $140...FYI I am happy with mine. I know what oldproudvet is saying about the 1970's printer though. I bought a Jen$ales one awhile back for my 930, and yeah, there are a few photos in there I really am not sure what the man is pointing at. Good Luck
