I had a friend who quite farming, about 3 yrs ago, had a 820 JD, The auctioneer said it would bring about such in such amount, well after the sale bill came out he started getting calls from people in Iowa, and it brought twice, what the auctioneer said, I think about $15,000 ! But that's when corn was worth a lot more also.

Loren, it's been the same way here in Ohio for years. CASE tractors for some reason don't command similar money, but neither do all the other brands that have gone by the wayside through mergers or simply gone out of business. With John Deere, it seems people are buying the name rather than good deals and they seem willing to accept this while spending more from their pockets. I personally would rather spend more money for a totally rebuilt older tractor than pay for a tractor that needs reworked from the get go. While I might not farm anymore, I'll always be a CASE man till I die, still think the BIG 400 was the best tractor Case made. Guess my 2 cents went to 5 cents worth, sorry.!!

Generally a tractor with a new paint job will bring more then one in its work cloths. Those results shouldn't be surprising at all. In fact I'm surprised the 830 didn't bring more. Neighbor lady just sold an R for $5,000 and it is nowhere near the tractor the 830 was and not as collectable. 830s were only made for two years and about 6,000 units. 930s had a much longer production run and I'm guessing sold more units. Add to that the JD 30 series were the last of the 2 cylinders and most of the time bring a premium compared to even previous 2 cylinder series. That's no secret. In fact the 30 series weren't even suppose to exist but JD introduced them as a stopgap measure until the New Generation was ready. And as it has been stated before Case tractors generally don't generate the excitement JD and even IH does. And that bodes well for guys like me on a budget. I love the JD 830s but given a choice between the two tractors I would have taken the 930 at $1,500 especially if it was an early one. That's about what they go here. My neighbor along time ago bought a square fender CK 930 Western special for $800 at a local auction. Nothing wrong with the tractor other then no drawbar. When he brought it home he just robbed a drawbar off one of his LAs and he was in business. About 2 years ago I had a chance to buy a 930 for $1,000. Problem was it had no PTO.
