Experimental D.C. Case?

I had a good friend of mine that retired from case back in the 70's and he told me that there were some experimental D.C. Cases that had the new big 400 diesel coupled to the D.C. rearend and transmission. The reason he said they did this was because case had not finished the 400 rearend and transmission in time for the Nebraska test. So rather than miss their appointment they retrofitted this combo to send to Nebraska. Have any of y'all ever herd of this or is my friend just pulling my chain. If so do you think that there may still be one of these around or would they all have been destroyed

They for sure did install a number of the coming "400" engines in D series tractors for testing, I have pics some where of a couple of them
cnt

If they did that, they would have been going backwards, because a snotty DC w/ 4" Pistons will "Wump" the @ss of the 251 Diesel!! My Dad used to say that the 400 was his biggest disappointment w/ CASE. They built it up for a year, & when they released it, it didn 't live up to it's reputation. He told about demonstrating the 400 picking corn, the 400 mired in & a DC doing the same job, walked around the mired in 400.

Found it. Pretty sure that is a 400 diesel in the DC.

Wowser, I own a couple DC's and a couple 400's. This is very interesting information. But the mystery remains are there any DC 251 Diesels out there somewhere? Or as was suggested, when they found out the 251 was not quite what they had envisioned return to the factory for disassembly or disposal. Maybe some employee in the dark of night, snuck the tractor out of the plant, rather than destroy it, and it resides in a fence row in Wisconsin. That would be a find. gobble

They would have taken them back to Racine for a teardown to see how things were working,, I am betting none were let out as this was a secret program,, but then I have learned never to say never with Case

You are probably correct. But it was fun to imagine the find. After all Johnny Cash did it, "one piece at a time". lol gobble
