Maybe some of you can help; neighbor has a 930 Case.....with cab....guessing about 1970........PS has quit working- turns very hard. I tried to see the pump under hood but so far haven't found it? Is it like my 1030 case with separate pump/reservoir or is the pump somewhere else? The front loader and hydraulics work fine- just no PS. Thanks.

Far as I know the last 930's were built in 1969. The hydraulic pump that runs the 3 point hitch and remotes/loader , does not have any thing to do with the power steering. the power steering has it's own pump on the front of the engine , drive with a belt. There is a oil reservoir on the pump it's self, I use Hy-Tran in my tractors. Hope this helps, Bruce

Check to make sure universal joints in steering shaft aren't seizing up, I had 2 of mine do that and a friends 730, all were the one under the lower radhose, you can keep spraying penetrating oil on it and turning. Good luck.

I would eliminate any mechanical issues first. Pick the front wheels off ground with loader and see if it steers easily lock to lock, and if so greese the spindals while there is no pressure on them. Some times the needle bearings in the spindled will get dry and act more like spragues rather than bearings. There could also be problems in the steering column, or the several u-joints in the steering shaft. If all is free and turns smooth, tighten up the fan belts and ps pump drive belt or better yet replace them with the proper belts. The tractor should have the notched fan and pump belts on it. If no mechanical problems found, and ps resivoir is full, you will have to check pump pressure, and go from there.

someone stuck a ford pump on my nephews 830 ,.. now that tractor has real power steering ,, not just power assist,.. my 730 had a leak on the line,.. not real bad but every 2 weeks of haying it needed more fluid ,. i stuck a clear 2 ft 1/4 hose on a lucas sqeeze bottle and pushet oil into the reservoir,. no more unboltin the hood ,.. learned that lesson when my brother got his stubby western 830 , with the problematic long leaky hydraulic cylinder ,. the p-owner handed his bottle and hose to my brother ,. saying ,, you are gonna need this ...

Isn't there a filter in the p/s pump? I seem to remember a fiber type filter in my uncles big 500 that was dirty and after changing it the p/s worked much better. I could be wrong though.

All of the recommendations here are quite valid. One other thing that has been pointed out before on this topic is the fan pulley. The fan pulley will actually wear to the point where the proper groove is gone and the belts will not grip well and slip - usually when turning. You can hear the fan change speed when turning. The fan pulley drives the PS pump, thus slowing it down. Short term solution is frequent tightening of all belts and a abundant coating of belt dressing. The U-joints were actually the biggest drag on my 930. Again, everything mentioned by the others is good advice. GOOD LUCK

ok thanks! So the 930 has the same PS pump as the 1030? I will go check this week- he lives aways from me.

It has a filter.
Pump is ahead of front head.I use a mustard or tarter sauce bottle to add fluid. Dextron is the correct fluid, I put Hy-Tran oi mine, before I got my manual, and i locked up the pump valve.
