Question on Stationary Work

When using dual and triple range transmissions for stationary work (belt and PTO) is it better to leave the transmission in neutral or in one of the ranges?
I'm thinking that this might have been covered on here recently.

dual range two stick on a 730/830 ect. should be in hi or lo with the 4 speed trans. in neutral, on a single stick the trans .in a 400/800 ect.is always in hi or lo depending which neutral you are in, this is in regard to the Racine built tractors

(quoted from post at 16:54:02 10/22/16) Thank you for the reply brutus. Does this also apply to the triple range?

I don't see any reason for the gear trains to run if not required to turn the rear or side pto. Don't most triple range tractors have a hand clutch that disengages the triple range thus the main transmission and permitting the pto to continue to run? Doesn't you 300 have a hand clutch?

Joe

Joe, I did not think about using the hand clutch like that. Was just wondering on Case's thoughts about the range transmissions and stationary work.

Thank you for the replies.

The owners manual for my 400 super and my 800 both say the same thing. "Mid-way between high and low neutral is a third retained neutral position, as indicated by "BP" in the shift diagram. This position is for stationary belt pulley work." It is on page 75 of the 400 operator's manual.

I don't know much about the triple range tractors built in Rockford as there are not very many around here. The only one I ever owned was a 611B and I didn't like it a whole lot. I wouldn't mind a 511 or a 530 someday.

Looking at my 300RN Owners Manual it only stresses making sure the oil level is high enough. I would leave the hand clutch engaged and put the triple range in direct as direct is straight through. The triple range and dual range have no neutral position like the 400RN. Nick
