970 lost first gear

i have a 970 ps . that has been working great . other then the three point wont lift . but it did have a broken cable. and i havent had the chance to adjust it . .. was unhooking disc sat . and pulled away. to hook up to corn picker . i stopped to shift to another gear . and seemed to get cought between gears . i did get it to nuetral.. put it in gear again let inching pedel out and it jumped and jerked a bit . stopped and fidded i little and made sure it was in nuetral .. . tried all gears and all work forward and recverse except. 1st. .. can feel it detent but wont move in any ps range ... i know top cover needs tocome. off . is it possible to get the ps valve and trans cover offwith out removeing the cab.. hope its just a shift fork issue. thanks for all your help .

Yes,you can remove it without taking off the cab. I always remove it by removing the battery box and sliding it down over the side of the transmission,It does work better with two people,because it is heavy.

thanks. will try that .. i d hate to resort to the smoke wrench and make a bigger hole in floor if i dont have to .
