David Brown 885 clutch adjustment

I need to adjust the clutch in my 885. The pedal has little free play and pushing down all the way doesn't stop the pto except when it's on a heavy load. The only thing I can find in the owner's manual is to reposition the cam under the clutch pedal one notch. However, it's a cast piece and not willing to come off freely. I don't want to bust it trying to get it off the shaft as it's probably made of unobtainium.

Looking back at other posts about this there's been mention of adjusting on the clutch itself(?). By taking off the two covers, one on the right hand side and the other underneath, there's good access to the clutch. Can someone elaborate on any adjustments in there? Thanks for any replies.

Jim, that is the way I have always adjusted mine. I will look in my repair manuals tomorrow and get back with you. I also have spare parts for that 885. I try to buy any that I find for parts.
 

Thanks for the reply Arlen. Do you have any difficulty in getting that "cam" off its shaft or does it slip off easily? I have to go in to my Case dealer Monday for combine parts so I thought I'd check if it's available anymore before I start reefing on it.

Looking in the owner's manual they go in to detail on repositioning it, then the last paragraph reads:

"If the PTO cannot be completely freed with the pedal fully depressed, new transmission clutch facing will be required. If not excessively worn, a new period of life may be obtained by adjustment to the three adjustable pegs in the clutch. Adjustment to these should only be carried out by a competent service engineer and your David Brown dealer should be consulted."

I think it's this adjustment to the three pegs that has been referred to in other posts. I'd prefer to simply reposition the cam on the clutch pedal first and see how it acts.
 
The adjusting screw is under the "10" in your third picture. There are 3 equally spaced around the clutch.


Loosen the jamb nut, and turn them till you have about .070" clearance on the front ends before they make contact. tighten nuts back up.
