VAI Eagle Hitch

Have a VAI with an eagle hitch. When you push the control lever forward the arms wont go down You push them down but when you let off of them they come back up.Is this just air in the system or something else.

if your engine is at too high a idle they will do that, you should be able to push them down and then move the lever to "N" and they should stay in summer,,, in the winter they can do this a bit more

There are several malfunctions that can cause this condition.

1. When the control lever is in neutral, The control valve is in position to by-pass the pump output directly back to the torque tube. If the control valve is not fully in bypass position, pump pressure that is not being bypassed is directed via the lift check valve to the piston. The control valve may be sticking or simply out of adjustment (tappet lash is .010") Also any restriction in the return piping in the control valve to the torque tube will have the same effect. That includes a plugged return oil filter in the torque tube if so equipped.

2. This problem can also be caused by a plugged vent/leak-off since the leak-by oil and grease tends to build up in the rockshaft housing reducing air space on the under side of the piston and it is effectively air bound. When the draft arms are pushed down the piston travels up creating a vacuum in the rock shaft housing that pulls the piston back down again raising the draft arms when you let go.
You can check that by pulling the tube fitting, make sure the fitting is clear, run the engine, cycle the hitch several times. If your rock shaft housing is tight you may be able to feel air being expelled as the lift is raised and pulled back in as it is lowered. If that is ok check the tubing clear to the torque tube. Any oil is from piston seal leak-by and may be bad seal or just an accumulation over time that is harmless. Any grease is from those 4 zerks on the back of the housing. That and the filter would be the first thing I would check.
