Hi guys , I haven't been posting lately since I've been doing other projects . Anyway , I just bought an S that ran good last year . It wouldn't start so I removed the vale cover to find 2 stuck valves . I released one , but the # 3 cyl. intake is stuck down and won't release . I got her running and tried to prie it up , but no luck --any ideas --thanks in advance --Larry

You might try feeding some small diameter cord or rope in the spark plug hole and that will allow you to push up on it and you may find it helpful to pull the spring and drive the valve down a little It cant go no were with the cord holding it. just make sure the cord is small enough to get it back out easy and not so small it gets pinched in-between the piston and the sleeve. I've changed springs like that before. Just a thought! Interesting My guides are brass are you sure its not bent?

I've used the rope trick thru the spark plug hole on chainsaws, never thought about its use in other situations such as this, thank you. A wise but young Civil Engineer told me once, "We're all smarter than one of us". That why this forum is so great, shared knowledge. gobble

I'm beginning to think it's bent, because 99 % of the time they release . So it's been soaking for a week and I'll try it again --maybe leave it till spring if I need to revove the head --thanks for the advice .

I had an SE unit doing the same thing. I clamped a good vice grip onto the retainer and twisted back and forth while applying Marval Mistery oil on the stem. When I got it almost all the way back up I applied more oil and smacked it with a hammer until it kept coming all the way up. I ran the engine for about two hours running fine. The next time it started, the same thing. Gave it another treatment and it now starts and runs great.

I used a light air hammer on the head next to the valve stem. I did this after soaking it for 2 days. The vibration walked it back up its been free ever since (3 years)
