Case 900b operation

How are these tractors supposed to start and run cold? What direction is the live PTO lever for engaged or disengaged? Seems to run constantly no matter where. What's the compression supposed to be at?

Diesel right? If your batteries are cables are good, you can use the decompression lever in front of the throttle (pull it up to decompress) to start spinning the engine over and get some oil pressure built up. While it's spinning good, push the decompression level back down and it should fire right up. Avoid using ether with this engine the power cell heads are prone to cracking if you do. Frankly you don't need either with them though, I've started our 500 and 900B in the low 40's just with decompression and a good battery.

If your throttle linkage stops are not adjusted too well it might idle quite low, you might want to avoid that and adjust it up to about 600rpm minimum for the sakes of oil pressure when cold.

Sitting in the seat, pull the pto lever towards you to engage. No brake on the pto so it runs all the time, but of course will stop if a shaft is hooked to it.

When the weather gets colder I usually plug in the recirculating heater I have on my early 930 - makes things go a lot easier.

Case had a protective shield that bolted on over the pto shaft but they've probably been lost on most tractors over the years. I put mine on if I'm using my tractor when the grandkids are around.

Yep I ended up just making one from a piece of pipe and welding on two tabs to bolt on and a big washer welded on the end so kids can't stick their fingers in between the pipe and the pto.
