Case W5 Loader

Looking at possibly purchasing a 1960 Case W5 loader. Seller says it drove fine before he got it, once it was delivered can't get it to go into a gear, just grinds. It is clearly sitting outside. Not sure of much more than that. I am having issues finding anything out about this piece of equipment. A Google search only returns either one for sale or pictures of them. Before I go take a look at this machine I would like to have knowledge of what to look for and if it will be worth my time to fix it, or if I even can.

Thanks for the information about the shuttle shift lever, I bet that is what they are not doing.

I know anything can be fixed, it just takes time, money, and an understanding Wife.
 
I had a W7E machine which is a newer 4wd machine similar to this one. If the power steering is not in good condition, you almost cannot drive it. The brakes were out on mine and was going to be a nightmare to fix. It will take a large area to turn it around. If you have never been on a machine that articulates in the middle to turn, you might be happy with it. Otherwise, I don't think you will like it.
 
I have been on machines that pivot in the middle but understand that this is a rear steer and takes 40 acres to turn around. Thanks for the info on the brakes as well as the power steering.
 
the W5 will turn far shorter than the W7 and up does almost as maneuverable as a forklift but not quite, I agree these are Far different than the bend in the middle ones,,, but there are still advantages over them too

here are the specs from the ops manual,, also note the turning radius seems like a short turning unit to me lol I can post you more from it if you like
