800 Charging Confusion

I'm about ready to decide that either the generator isn't putting out or the voltage regulator is kaput. It starts and runs fine - has a new battery in it - but the gauges show no life at all. The ammeter gauge doesn't move a bit when I turn the key to on, or when the tractor is running. Back when I was getting the dash all wired I polarized the genny by momentarily jumping the BAT terminal to the A post on the genny.

F terminal on the voltage regulator is jumpered to the F post on the genny.
NEG terminal on the voltage regulator is jumpered to the A post on the genny.
BAT terminal on the voltage regulator is wired to one side of the ammeter gauge.
The other side of the ammeter gauge is wired to the BAT terminal on the ignition switch and then on to the starter solenoid.

With the tractor running I pulled the hot battery cable off the battery and it stopped running. That tells me the genny or voltage regulator isn't putting out. Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!

Auto-lite or delco? On a delco you can short the field to ground which bypasses the regulator, if the gen is putting out it ought to go to full charge telling it's the regulator, not sure if this also works on a 3 brush Auto-lite

It's a Delco and thanks for the good tip. I grounded the field post on the genny, started it up, and while it was running I pulled the hot battery cable - it kept right on running. Guess I'm going for the regulator. Which by the way, is available at Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/REGULATOR-FITS-CASE-TRACTOR-811-B/dp/B00E9G1NBQ ... for a good bit cheaper than I found it elsewhere.
