Case VAC 12 volt wiring diagram

I am new to Case's. I have owned a Ford 9n that was converted to 12 volts. I recently acquired a Case VAC that has a Delco alternator and is 12 vdc negative ground. There is a resistor in line to the 6v coil. I would have preferred the 6 volt system, but I'll stick with this for now. I was wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram for this, I have been through the forums, but haven't seen what I need. Everything is pretty much hooked up. Upon receiving it, and getting it running, I noticed there is a single wire running from the alternator to the ammeter, but the other post of the ammeter doesn't run to anything. I use a meter a lot with work, and understand electrical well, I'm just new to this system. I can't give the exact year, as the dash tag is missing.

Sounds like you have the simple 1 wire type delco alternator. When it is not running do you have around 12.5 volts at the battery?? Then with it running and you have revved it up so as to excite the alternator do you have 14 or so volts at the battery??

Now if it is a 3 wire then you have a plug that is marked #1 and #2. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud on the alternator and the #1 wire goes to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on. Your likely to need a diode or light bulb or ballast resister in the #1 wire or good chance you will not be able to turn it off
 
Thanks for the reply, Old. Let me give a little background on this tractor. I received it earlier this week handed down from my Great Uncle. The exhaust manifold has a huge hole. The engine was stuck. I freed it up, and got it running. I'm waiting for the manifold, so I haven't ran in much. While the cylinders were soaking, I went through and cleaned the electrical. I did start it, and I have around 12.75 volts prior to starting, and around 14.6 when running idled up. The alternator has a wire going from the battery post to the ammeter. There is a plug missing on the top of the alternator and one of the spade connections, I'm assuming the field is jumpered to the battery post on the alternator. The previous owner had the push pull on off switch fed from the hot side of the push button starter switch. The lights were fed from the hot side of the push button also. The alternator is wired to the ammeter. Shouldn't all the loads be wired with that, including the lights and ignition switch? Then have a dedicated wire ran from the ammeter to the positive battery post? Also, which side is the load, and which is the supply on the ammeter?

With it running do you see the amp gauge go + or -?? But yes the loads should all be on one side and so should the charge wire from the alternator. Which wire from the plug goes to the charge stud on the alternator/ The #1 or #2. It should be marked on the alternator right where that plug is. Can be hard to see but it will be there. If from the #2 then it is set up to self excite but if it is on the #1 then sooner or latter it is going to smoke due to being excited at all times.

Oh by the way I have a good used manifold out in my shop for VAC
 
The jumper is running from the number 2 terminal to the charge post. The ammeter was showing a discharge when the alternator was charging. I swapped leads on the alternator. Thanks for your help. Any idea why someone would keep the 6v coil with a resistor? Wouldn't it be better to have a 12v coil? Thanks again. Also if you want to send pictures of the manifold and a price to my email [email protected], I would appreciate it. I'm not looking to purchase a new one at this point as the previous owner stated there was engine noise. I'm trying to get it back to that point. I am not sure how they heard it! It may have been the chunk of steep they had clamped over the hole!

Swapped leads on alternator ?? Don't you mean amp gauge??. The #2 wire is a sensing wire and tells the V.R. what the change is of the battery. I have a good many parts on hand for Case VAC tractor since I have 2 parts VAC out in my junk yard. But I also have a VAC I have been raking hay with and a VAI I am working up to fix the loader on it I'll send you an e-mail in a moment
