VAO Project

Evening all,

Just finished up (just about) the VAO project that started this past spring. New bottom end rebuild with everything new (crank ground, bearings, etc) started it up the first time about two weeks ago after about a hour of towing it and getting it timed right. Still having a small problem with the starter not kicking the motor over for more than one turn (compression is extremely strong) and other times it will roll it right over no problems. It does hiss sometimes while spinning it over before it fires, Any suggestions? Video and pic attached.

I just had a problem like this on a friends VAC , Did you replace , or rebuild the starter ? The drive that the rebuilder put on his was a ten tooth .It would occaisionally make a full revolution, but would usually jam at a half turn . Under my bench I had the same starter with a nine tooth drive , and I tried it , worked like a champ ! You can change it yourself , it mounts with 2 pinch bolts on the shaft , no need to dissassemble the starter.
