New to me Case 1175

Hello all, I finally purchased a tractor last week. Was a local Case 1175 with a Great Bend 660 Loader. 48xx hrs, paid just under 5K for it. Over all a nice clean tractor but its not without its issues. I wanted to ask about a issue I'm having with the gauges. The lower left gauge I believe is the Transmission Temp gauge and it seems to have a bit of a bounce to it. Some times it reads just at the hot or red line and other times its staying in the middle. I am unsure how to check the trans fluid if anyone can point me in the right direction. Also the Engine Temp gauge was working two days ago and now nothing. Gauge issue? Are these gauges mechanical or electronic?

I'm going to add that I wasn't working the tractor very hard. The duals are on right now and I was pulling a 14' ft John Deere BWA Tandem Offset. 1st Range and 4th Gear. Running about 1800 rpm and 4mph.

Trans temp sender is located on the lower RH side of PTO housing. With a bouncing gauge you will want to check for a bare spot on the wire that is grounding it out.
Engine temp sender is on the top rear of engine, kinda hard to see on a 1175 cause the air filter sits above. Gauge not reading anything look for a broken or disconnected
wire. Rod.

Should be able to short the engine temp sender wire to ground and see if it pegs the gauge which will eliminate the possibility of gauge or wire problems.

Thanks for the information on the locations. Would have spent forever looking. Would you happen to know if the transmission has a dipstick or sight glass for fluid level?

Tractor should have 2 sight glasses on the rear end housing below the battery box to check hyd. oil. Transmission and rear end oil are one.

Thanks. This tractor has had the battery boxes moved because of the two arms for the loader that go under the tractor to the rear axle. The box is now bolted to the passenger side arm. Am I correct in assuming that it should still be in that general vicinity?

Here's the page from the owner's manual describing where the sight glasses are. If you have loader arms extending back to the rear axle the sight glasses may be behind the left one (ladder side).

This page says to use Case TFD oil which is no longer available - Hytran is the replacement oil.
