Case-O-Matic Fluid??

I have a Case 630 which specifies SAE 10W motor oil for the Torque Converter. Since the Case-O-Matic is common to the remote hydraulics, I want to use a universal fluid in all my equipment. I was told using the general purpose farm store universal fluid is what causes gear grinding when shifting when cold because it's a thicker fluid. That all makes sense.
Using SAE 10W oil will result in cross mixing when common implements are used with other tractors.
Is there a universal fluid that would be more compatible for the Case-O-Matic?

Thanks,

Case specified Type-A automatic transmission fluid back in the day, not engine oil. That spec. was revised to TCH fluid, which is still available at Case construction dealers. Many folks use Hi-Tran also. I'm running universal 303 in my 831C with no adverse effects.

Loren,
Somewhere I thought automatic transmission fluid was specified as well. I currently have a universal HyTran (not 303). When I checked my owner's manual this morning, it specified SAE 10W for the Torque Converter. I don't recall where I got the automatic transmission fluid reference. I too have used 303 as a replacement for HyTran in other tractors, but I now find information that it is based on a low cost thicker base oil and is not recommended for below 32 deg.
I found it difficult to find SAE 10W motor oil and very high priced. Since posting, I have found ISO 32 Hydraulic Oil is a 10W viscosity. Maybe I'll try it.
My 630 doesn't get used enough to get warmed up good, so I'm usually operating cold and don't like grindings when first engaging. After initial engagement at low idle, I do quick shifts to avoid grinding.
I just took another look at my manual, dtd 1960, it specifies SAE 10W and SAE 5W in extreme cold for the Torque Converter. Additionally, I found SAE 10W specified for the Eagle Hitch and automatic transmission fluid type A as an alternative. As I recall, the Eagle Hitch and remote hydraulics is common to the torque converter. That's probably where I got the idea for automatic transmission fluid.
These oils are getting too complicated for me. No wounder I'm confused.
Thanks for your comments.

303 was the jd hyd. fluid before hygard and is recognized as a universal fluid. Be careful what 303 you buy. There is some good stuff and their is some cheap crap that doesn't even meet tractor specs all using the 303 trade name. As for my 830 com I use TCH but other fluids will suffice also.

I think perhaps you are confusing oil specs. for a standard trans. 4-12-8spd with reverser, 630 rather than a 630 with the COM tranny in it. They are different.
