Newer Style VAC Steering

Well the steering on my VAC kept getting harder and harder to turn after its restoration. If I remember correctly it didnt turn too badly with the narrow front end on it so I crossed my fingers and didnt take the shaft apart. Well if it can go wrong it usually does and it was to the point of having to turn the steering wheel with both hands to get it to budge. So we pulled the shaft out and cleaned the steering tube out and sanded down the rod. While we were at it I installed a new bushing into the top end since the one in it probably came with the tractor new. (I had an extra bushing when I ordered the one for my 300.) With it all clean we drilled a hole towards the top of the steering tube and put a grease zerk in to help keep the tube and bushing lubed from the top. It seems case would have been better off to do this rather than just have the grease fitting at the bottom of the tube where it instantly shoots out the bottom and all over the battery tray. In the end it steers VERY nicely now and I can easily steer it with one hand and that is with the wide-front installed. The wide front end does not turn hard unless the tractor is sitting still. If anyone is have trouble with turning the newer style steering it might be worth a look and pull the steering rod from the tube. Sorry for the long story. I will try to post a picture soon.
