Case 470 independant pto

My 470 has an independant pto. I noticed yesterday that its leaking fluid around the shaft. When I move the PTO lever, I can see the seal around the shaft move slightly, near the bottom. I'm thinking the seal needs to be replaced, but I'm not sure how difficult this will be. Looks like there is 4 bolts and 2 allen screws holding the cover on. If I remove the cover, is it fairly simple to replace the seal? I don't want to pull the cover and realize I'm in over my head.

Thanks for any info

I don't think the seal is moveing, the pto shaft is moveing, which means a worn bearing. From the way you worded your question, I would suggest that you are a novice, and already in over your head, and need to find a mechanic to assist you with the wrench work, or just run it and keep track of the lube level if the shaft has little latteral or vertical movement. If you open up that pto housing, you will be in trouble without a service manual.

I checked this morning and there is some movement, but very little. I use a dial indicator to set up my tablesaw, and used that and found some, but very little. The fluid level is fine, after using the tractor a lot this past week. I do feel like this is probably beyond what I shoul take on myself, so do you feel its ok to run like this, just keeping an eye on the fluid level.

Thanks
