I'm shopping around a tractor with loader. Found this on CL

https://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/5758138097.html

Seems cheap for a tractor of this size. What problems shoul I be looking for if I go check this out? Does te case-o-matic have issues like the fords selecto?? Anyone know if it's a live PTO or power steering??

I can't help you with your questions. I have the same type of front end loader as in the pics. Do you know the manufacture name of this front end
loader? Thank you.

no they do not have issues like the SOS ,, I like them for for loader work, people either love them or hate them they did have power steering as a option

You can't beat COM for loader work or starting loads, especially really heavy loads. Really love it at this point. But, JIC didn't put a live power clutch in the COM tractors so you could stop the forward motion of the tractor , start the forward motion keeping the PTO operated machine up to operating speed. After stopping the forward motion, you have to idle the engine, release that petal that you pushed to stop the forward motion, rev up the engine starting out on the torque converter. Do this a few hundred times a day and you will hate the damned thing, I've already been yelled at on this site for complaining about this.

the pto is independent on COM tractors (foot clutch does not affect pto operation), on the 400B and 600B you can feather the clutch unlike the Racine units before the "F" spool came which had no feather at all they were in or out,, this is one of they few things about a COM that takes some practice to work out

wel this is mainly my yard tractor- brush mowing, small garden, lots of snow plowing and moving. Do you have to engage the COM or can you just drive it in normal gears?

I'm la to hear people like the loader- all the other tractors I've asked about people have warned me the steering will be shot etc.

COM is a torque convertor with a lock up clutch in front on the transmission,, like a auto trans in a car or pickup but in this version you can lock out the convertor and make it like a standard trans,, it always starts out on convertor or COM drive, let out on the clutch at idle, then throttle up to move off Smooth just like the auto in your car,,

Sounds like a really nice feature. And it has the most horsepower at the drawbar of the machines I'm looking at plus it's the least expensive. Already left a VM for the guy I hope he still has it.

Please let us know if you get the 600. Would like to hear from you using the live PTO. Maybe I'm not smart enough to operate it.

The Craig's List post has been removed/expired, did you get it?

The early 800 COM I was around always had a little bit of converter drag that kept the transmission gears spinning when shifting. To shift, you had to slow the engine down to idle, then wait another five to ten seconds before taking it out of gear and shifting to the next or the gears would grind hard. Was that common with COM or was there an adjustment problem on that tractor? A transmission brake sure would have been handy on that tractor.
