Just purchased a Case DC. Looking to make a pulling tractor out of it. Wanted something not seen much in the area. Has a 5505 gas head on it. Will it have good power increase if it's port and polished, different valves, or do I need to look for a 5576 head? Looking for descent increase in horsepower for antique tractor pulls without breaking the bank.

Love to have some good advise or options needed to get to 60+hp. Piston options, valves, cam, etc.

Thanks!

What year is the DC. The later production had bigger pistons. A propane head will give you more compression. I think 53 and newer. Dick

1950 DC case with hand clutch, gas manifold, and 5505 head. Would it have standard bore unless someone overhauled it in the past? Is it possible to check the size of the piston through the inspection plate on the side of the block? What kind of oversize sleeve and bore is most commonly available, likely from other manufacturers since I'm guessing parts for this tractor are hard to come by?

I'm completely new to this type of tractor so thanks for your help!

I was waiting for someone with more knowledge than I have to post. Your DC came with 3 7/8 cast pistons. Late DC's and overhaul kits are 4" aluminum pistons. If you are looking to make real power M and W made a 4 1/16" domed aluminum piston/sleeve set that you can find from time to time. A propane head (6128) will increase compression because of a small combustion chamber, but they also have small valves. You can shave the 5505 head quite a bit for more compression. Some people have squeezed 4 3/8 pistons in a DC block, all it takes is cash. Don

4 5/8 pistons can be put in a dc with cast sleeves, for 4 3/4 I would want either ductile cast or steel sleeves, for $3500 I would sell my NATPA div.2 legal 40 dc puller, it has 4 3/8 pistons, lp head, cam and 15.5-38 tires

My DC with all fuel head has seen 53 HP with 4" piston and a better carburetor. I got another with 4 1/16 pistons and gas head but the m and w pistons with no dome are lower compression than stock. I would think that if u take.100 off the head got a copper head gasket and bigger carb u would see 60 HP. But I could be off. Good luck I love pulling mime stock it still does good
