VAO shift lever issue

A friend has a 47 VAO. The shift lever spins around? You cannot put in any gears. Is there a pin or something that connects the shifter lever to the fork assembly? Thanks, Dick
 
Sounds like shift lever is broken off below cover or the centering pin in the ball socket has sheared.
Take the shift cover off and see what the problem is. There are only 4, 3/8" bolts holding the cover and lever on.

Looks like the pin in the ball joint on top of the cover sheared. Can one of them pins be gotten anywhere? Thanks, Dick
