Quiet cab??

I have a 970 will be at 5000 hours at the end of hay season. Burns oil & gonna need a clutch job..cab & doors are pretty beat up. A/c doesn't work..I looked at a 2090 with loader..it had been given a make over ..nice tractor. I could not believe how quiet & comfortable the cab was compared to my 970.i s it possible & what would you do to make a 970..a smaller version of a 2090?

after over 40 years the sound proofing and dust / heat seals are gone, the 970 was the first tractor to be 85 decibels, meaning at the time it had the quietest cab in the industry,,, now the later next generation in cabs has a totally separate design that seals out dirt/ heat and noise much better,,, so to make the 970 the same as a 90 series cab is a big task,, but if you replace the heat shield on the firewall, seal up all the entry points again like the they were new you will be amazed how much better it is than now,,

Spray under coat on the under side of the hood to keep the noise from following the tin work into the cab.

Replace the rubber cab mounts. My 1070 has only 3000 hours but the mounts were flattened and it was virtually sitting metal on metal. I also, along with undercoating, (I used a 3M product call Body schutz which is paintable), used foil sound deadening material the street rod folks use for firewalls and under floor mats. Makes quite a difference. Isolating the cab from the chassis is the key.

Dumb question:
The 70 series were built from 1970 to 1978, did the cab sound levels stay the same (around 85 dBa) throughout the production run or was better sound insulation added to the later cabs as the competition improved (some were under 80 dBa)?

The later ones had the roll bar frame in the cab covered with cab interior foam. That stopped the echo from radiating into the cab. As far as I know that was the biggest change.

agreed the 70 series had little changes in cab after the first couple years,,, maybe better sound material was added later,,big thing on them that lets sounds / dirt in is the firewall and area's where linkages come through, the 2470 in 1972 brought the first POD cab meaning it is a sealed separate unit from the tractor, this design has been used every since, that is why you see a lower decibel rating on the 90 series 2whl drives,, hope this explains is
