Case 500 crushing limestone

This is a picture taken last Sunday at the Northeastern WI Antique Power Assn. annual show. It's myself and Chuck Massart, who is in charge of the stone crusher display, in front of my 500. Many people remarked of the incredibly smooth power as opposed to the other tractor in the background. We also were the target of a large campaign to eliminate our pig wrestling event. It went off without any trouble. Don

Thanks for sharing the picture. Re the pig wrestling complaints, even the ugly girls need a hug now and then...

I have seen 1 other rock crusher, (thats what we call them) in my travels, they were threwing field rock in the hopper, about the size of a football, bye hand, out came the most beautiful crushed rock, but this one looks bigger.

Don: I told this story on a Deere Forum, some years back to lite a fire & it did. Went like this. My Dad was trying to sell the Town a new 500 Diesel, but the Town Sup't. said he could crush more stone w/ an Deere "R". My Dad said "Bull%#&@"! He went over to see, and sure enough, the "R" was on the belt running the rock crusher, and she was poppin' & hoppin. They had an anvil set up under the front axle of the "R", and every time she hopped up, a Town employee would set a stone on the anvil, and when she came down, she'd crush the rock.

When I worked in a machine shop we had a customer complain because the crosses we put on the pto for his auger kept going out. I was on the farm to fix something else and saw a 2 cyl jd on the auger, I suggested he try something a little smoother on the pto and then problem went away.

I remember being at an equipment dealer back in the 50s that sold the New Idea brand and their block man happened to be there. He watched as a new corn picker left the dealer behind a G J.D. His remark was "he will shake it to pieces in a couple of years"

It depends on the implement as to whether it will stand up to a two banger Deere. Dad ran a Minneapolis two row pull type picker behind a 51 A Deere for all of fifteen years without replacing a U joint. He said he could see the one long drive chain jumping in time with the tractor but that chain never was replaced.

On the other hand, the neighborhood baler was first a Deere 14T and then a Deere 24T behind a Deere 60 and later a Deere730 gas. Once a year the U joint on the tractor end of the PTO shaft would go out. This went on for 13 or 14 years till the two banger was replaced with a Deere 4030. That ended the U joint problems.

I was going to try and get up there to Valmy this year, mainly to chew the fat with one of my friend(him and his pa are big into that show). Then it was raining and I lost interest in a road trip.

Dumb question, why do all them guys with rock crushers only run soft lime(I know don't want to break an un-replaceable part, but what the fun in that.
