I swapped my Oliver fenders for these 931 fenders. Been modifying these 931 fenders to fit on my 831C eagle hitch tractor. Fabed up C channels fron the cut off peices, and migged them on where I cut the front extensions off these fenders to reinforce them and elininate the sharp edges. That mod came out good. I removed all the strutts and angle iron that were bolted to the sheet metal shells. They painted the support strutts, probably dipped, and then just bolted them to the unpainted fender shells with 5/16" carrage bolts and then painted the fender assys. Lots of rusty metal under the strutts where paint didn't hit. NOT the best plan!!!!
Spent yesterday afternoon sanding and modifying the fenders.Hope weather will allow me to prime and paint the sheet metal tomarrow.
Very hot and humid here with pop up T storms threatining.

Loren,

I had the exact same thoughts when working on the 1030 fenders. But then I thought I'd cut them some slack... These good old Case machines are still performing after 50 years. I wonder what lifespan the engineers thought they had designed them for? Don

that is a interesting thought, don,.one mite think a 20 yr life span from Case point of view ,. we have all seen new tractors that lokked plumb junk after a half dozen yrs on a farm, and we all have seen them 70 yrs old in pristine condition, bottom line ,, with proper care, most any American tractor not Just CASE,built before 1980 could outlast 3 owners lifetime owners .. Pops 51 DC Case is a prime example

In those days I think tractors were designed for 10,000 hour 20 year life, figuring they would be obsolete and traded-in after 10 years. Combines were designed for 2,000 hour life. The needs of the first buyer was the primary consideration.

I agree totally with the 10,000 hours number, or 20 years, That's all brands !!! They need the iron back after that point to recycle it!
