Case 500 transfer pump

Hi, i have a 1954 500 diesel that runs good but fuel will not keep up when under a load. I have full flow to filters but final stage filter will not stay full when tractor is being worked. Seems to be better when the tank is completely full. I am assuming transfer pump is weak, are there any remedies to this? Not sure exactly where to start? Thanks

Have you pulled the cover off the transfer pump and made sure the pin hasn't sheared that holds the one gear on. Flow from tank is full stream??? Sediment bowl is clean??

Get a strong flashlight and check carefully for anything inside the tank that might be partially covering the fuel intake.

I'm not sure if this has a screen (mesh) initial filter like the 400, but if it does, pull it out and soak/rinse in denatured alcohol and acetone. The mesh can clog with varnish and look clean, but be blocking most of the fuel flow.

Most of these types of problems are on the suction side, not on the pressure side.

Thanks for the replies. I have had the tank off and cleaned it along with the screen. Where is the pressure control valve at and what do I need to do to check that? I will also check for sheared key on the gear. I am planning on taking a look at it all this weekend. Thanks again!
