Bleeding Air From Fuel Line

O.K. I know I messed up...ran out of diesel fuel on David Brown Case Tractor. Obviously, tractor stopped immediately...not big surprise there. I did not know I was out of fuel...defective fuel gauge. I added diesel and replaced fuel filters. I then used the pump at the fuel pump to, I had hoped, to eliminate air in the system. Still the engine will not crank. What do I do next???? Do I need to bleed air at the "fuel distributor". Or do I possibly have other problems. I am trying to rule out one problem after the other.

you need to open the 1 stage fuel filter bleeder then pump till all bubbles are gone, tighten do the same for 2nd stage,, not sure if a 990 has one on the pump or not, easy to see bleed if it has one close it, try to start if she still will not self bleed with throttle wide open and crank for 30 seconds, loosen all fuel lines at the injectors, again crank until you get fuel max 30 seconds with 30 seconds rest time for starter, when you get fuel at the injectors tighten lines she should fire right up

Thanks for your input.

A 990 will have 2 bleeders at the pump. One is on the square part of the housing, the other on the rounded. Both will look like a screw with a jam nut on them. 5/16" and 7/16"(for the jam nut) if memory serves.

Yup. And if it ran completely out you'll need to then crack the lines at the injectors (5/8" open end) and crank till you get fuel spurting there. Retighten and try it.
