2096 hydraulics

sold a 2096 several months ago the guy calls today an says he is pulling a 15 ft. brushhog and when you push the clutch the pto jerks so bad it broke the pto shaft at the tractor,i have had them do this to a small degree when the clutch surges but nothing this bad,any one have any ideas.

Never heard of that on a later tractor. I would make sure low stand-by pressure is 350 psi and then check pto press when clutch is depressed to see if that is dropping off momentarily causing a surge. If it does maybe there is a bad leak in C-4, just guessing, Rod.

Rod,Thanks for the reply, leaning toward an internal leak also,i did rebuild the pto before sale didn't see anything then,to have that much shock it is almost like it changes directions for a split second.

The RPS34 Unit has it's misgivings, and 1 thing your customer should not do is depress the clutch with the engine rev'd up. I would worry about shearing the bolts inside the Power Shift unit.

You learn to live w/ it. You can depress the clutch & stop forward movement w/out engaging the reverse planetary unit. However, I believe the person w/ the 2096 is "floorboarding the clutch, that's why he sheared the PTO shaft.
