i use a male to female 45 degree fitting short nipple foot of heater hose and a funnel tie funnel to steering wheel[/img]

Why all the extra setup? The fill hole is 3/4" pipe, it will take a funnel as large or larger than the one in your pic. Filling through the dipstick hole how do you know when your at the correct level?

Baffle under the big hole on mine and its slower than molasses when trying to put in a quart.if my dipstick is at bottom mark its 1 quart.and it don't get oil on the chassis.I prefer to get a quart in in less than 5 minutes, the baffle don't let it get inside very fast, when I first got my 312 25 years ago I changed my fliud and realized has to be a better way than throgh that plug.maybe somebody removed the baffle from yours or never had it

Yes tray is what parts book calls the baffle and its number is G16525, sure slows down getting oil in case in a timely manor

The baffle is just for the breather. Don't you have a fill plug on the aft right corner of the cover like my first pic?

No sir.mine is a 1956 312 and yours looks somewhat diffrent than mine from the photos.only plugs are the breather and the dipstick.tried the breather and baffle slows it down to a slow trickle.I'd say that tray prevents oil from working up in the breather

My pics are 1956 310, have a 1959 311B that is the same. Yeah purpose of the baffle is keep oil from splashing up into the breather. Didn't know there was a cover without a fill hole. Was mine I would be doing some drilling. In any event you've overcome the slow fill, can't disagree with your method. Might help someone with a similar cover.

Yes i hope it does.
My now deceased neighbor was the shop foreman and he serviced my 312 new.told me some didn't have that plug yours does.its only got 3200 actual hours, but I'm about to open it up for its first internal repair.rockshaft cylinder orings failed.not bad for 60 years.this will be the first time any componet has been opened up.I put those orings in other 300's.
After I posted those photos now I can't post any more.is there like a daily limit on photo posting or has something poped up n blocked me? I'm not computer smart but I can overhaul about any machine made before these dang computer days

No limit on pics that I know of. Have seen a dozen or more posted in one thread. The site gets a little dingy occasional. Would like to see some pics of your 312 when you get straight with the computer gods. Post some pics of your hitch piston repair if you can.
