70 Series Battery Box

Fellas at the local tractor salvage saved this battery box for the 1370 I am rebuilding. Who ever built it did a excellent job and invested a few hours in making it. This is something ACG Loren would make. Easy to bolt on, well built with cover and swings out of the way for tractor service. The original box was used. Rod.

Rod, we had done the same thing on our 9 & 13 but had them a little farther ahead on the frame rail. The neighbor also did the same thing on his 970. I still have the one from the neighbors tractor laying here for future use on something. The 870 is still under the platform yet.

My 1270 has one and we fabricated ones for our 1370 and 1570. There was a metal company that provided the kit here in Iowa but I doubt they provide it any more. My 1270 lid has the tag from the manufacturer. I'll check on it and get back to you.

Rod, I think my dad and neighbor made these for ours. I will have to ask them. I don't think ours swung out though and that's also why they were mounted farther ahead on the rail so you could pull the batteries straight up & out. I will have to look at the one I still have and I have a few old tractor pics somewhat showing the sides that they were on. I know another good friend and neighbor made the angled brackets for the 90 series to angle the steps away from the cab/door similar to how the 94 series are and this was before the 94 series even came out. I have these on the 20 & 23. I don't know if he made anything like that for the 70 series steps.

We sold a lot of these kits Rod, the customer's love them. If memory proves me right We got them from the same company we got the extended front axles from for the 1270,1370 & 1570's

Rod, dad thought he had the local fab shop make his after telling them what he wanted but couldn't remember for sure after all these yrs :) He thought the neighbors dad made the one for their 970 and it doesn't swing out and is a little different in mounting too. Here is a couple pics of the 13, the first one is when we owned it and the second two is when I found it about 20 yrs later.

I added a battery box and steps from a 2390 to my 1570. The battery box was easy, simply drilled and tapped two bolt holes in the frame rail and bolted it up. Steps took a little more engineering, had to weld a couple pieces under the cab for the angle brackets to fasten to. Then I also added an extra angle iron that is bolted to the cab below the door. Steps are very sturdy now. Also added a pic to show how the simonsen ironworks axle kit bolts up.

No Steve I didn't. Jockey bought it, said it was going either to TN or PA. If I have another 13 it will be an open station for plow days and tractor rides. It was a good tractor for us but just never pulled like the 23 or 7130. It was running about 186hp last time on the dyno, we never turned it up either. When our 23 was a yr old and recalled for some bearing work it dynoed at 243hp and we turned it down to 190 and is still there today. Neighbor bought a 25 new around the same time, same thing year old and recalled for new bearings in rear end it was putting out 225hp. I don't know if he ever turned it down or not.
