This 4994 caught fire today at the show,,,, they said it caught fire while he was plowing and he drove it out where it would not burn up the wheat field, I was just told he left the parking brake on and that's what started the fire,, Huge Loss

don't seem possible ,.but there it happened ,, so sad ,,.. I have left my 1070 brake on and things got hot quick , now its out of adjustment and wont hold on a hill , need to fix the idiot lite, before I adjust up the brake again ,. really should have a bell bonger for some of us dum guys..

That is so sad, something like that just plain makes me sick. Work your behind off keeping a tractor like that up and running and in a split second it is all gone. Like my dad use to say, enough to make a old sow eat her pigs. Is that the model with the Scanta engine, or however you spell it.

I fixed the parking brake warning buzzer on my 2470. It's annoying, but not as annoying as burning up a tractor. It's to easy to leave that parking brake on.

Was a really nice tractor, the only one I have ever seen in person. I guess we were lucky to see it before the accident. Penfield is a really fun small show, the wife and two of the grandkids went up with me yesterday and we really enjoyed the show. Are at the show Tom?

Wow what a shame, was just looking it over yesterday morning. Neighbor always ran a 2870 and 4890, only scania's around here that I know of. You always know when one is working nearby, very distinct sound.

What an unbelievable loss!

I vote that Rod buys it and restores it in his spare time.

He may already have some of the parts to fix it in his secret spare parts stash.

It had been plowing and left in the field.Max Armstrong was wanting to see it and take pictures, so they went back to field to get it. The owner had his brother bring it back up to the grounds and when he did he forgot to release park brake. The external park brake got hot and started smoking and the owner tried to catch up with him on golf cart but failed to get him stopped. By the time he got back up to where they were going to park it the brake was hot enough to melt the fuel line. It sprayed out and caught fire. The rest is evident, between fuel , oil, and tires what a cloud of smoke.
I was out in the field prior to that helping owners when trying to plow, what a beast !! Didn't seem to be any load at all pulling a 10 bottom plow. I know the owner and I am sure he is still not sleeping thinking about losing his BIG toy.

I happen to know of an individual that owns one, a very unique tractor.I know when he bought it that it needed engine work and he did a rebuild of the engine. It's quite horse.

Is it just the white ones that are rare? I have a friend who use to own a red one. He transplanted a Cummins 855 into it then traded it off a few years later.

Very sad in deed, not to sound like a "smarty-pantys" just think what a fire-extingisher may have prevented this great loss. I got a class 3 in my company truck. I think the next "plow days " I go to I'am going to take with me. God Bless

Sorry, fire extinguisher would do no good with fuel burning from a fuel line. I burned up a pay loader once from a hot starter wire starting a fuel line. It went from a 6" flame to 6 feet in 10 seconds! Hydraulic lines burning within 1 minute, and tires in 1 1/2. When things happen that fast you can count your blessings that no one got hurt.

A Few years ago there were 3 of these on EBAY in TEXAS =I think I still have the Seller Saved /The sale ended with out any bids ! 1 ran the 2 othere's were fix or parts Tractors.if this is any help on saving it.

We were at Penfield, saw the 4994 before and after. Sad, very sad. I was told by several case people, that all the 49's were built before the merger. So...they all were white at one time, and got a red paint job later!

I was very sad for the owner, and his loss. This hurt me to the bone. I went to the intro in Phoenix for the "4994"

Thanks for the pictures. I bet there was a lot of excitement at the intro. Just wondering why the Scania engines?

CASE did not have a engine that big, the Scania engine were built much the same and had millions of hrs of proven use,, I was told by a dealer in MT that sold a good number of 2870/4890's he said he had very good luck with them ,, he said he did lose a few but if they went it was well within the warrenty limits
cmt

What scared most customers at first on the Scania, was it didn't have a engine oil filter, it had a engine oil cleaner on it. And actually worked quite well.
Very well built engine.
The 504 was maxed out in the "2670"
As with most companies, Case didn't have the time or resource's to build the engine they needed for the "2870"- "4994"

Yes there was a lot of excitement, especially getting into the big tractor market, I remember it was very cold that day we were in that tent in Phoenix

all I ever heard about that was they were "like" a CASE engine,,, I would also bet cost was a factor,, like I said though, world wide they were a Very well know engine then and may still be now
