Have been doing some spraying but decided to save the spray and cultivate the cleaner fields. Rod.

On another forum, the younger guys were saying it was a 5 bushel increase if you cultivate. Course most of those guys were young enough to never have cultivated corn or beans. They said the corn was greener a day or two after cultivating. I don't think they took into consideration that the black ground makes a sharper contrast than ground that isn't cultivated. So to prove to myself if there was a change or not, I put the cultivator on the 1170 and made several strips in different fields to see if it makes a difference. Must be about 20 years since I ran one, we'll see this fall......if it ever rains.

In all the yeild tests we have done over the years we have found a yeild increase with the corn, and a decrease on the beans. We ridge till so we go through the corn twice pushing up ridges high enough so we can plant beans on the ridges the following year, and still have ridge enough to plant corn on a ridge the 2nd year without cultivating the beans. About 15 acres to go and the corn will all be ridged. It is pushing 4 feet tall now so it should all make knee high by the 4th of July. If I had the time I would try to get some pictures. Might send my "office manager" out. DK

Looking Great Rod,,, as for working it, I know here in the desert I can always see a major jump in my corn if I work it,,, but no field corn for me for a while till I can get rid of those darn Starlings,,, yea like that will happen

Your combine must have done a good job of getting the corn in the bin cause I don't see any volunteer corn! Beans look nice and so does the tractor.

Wow. Picture perfect. Would be fun to cultivate under those conditions. Is that soil tiled or natural drainage?
