How To Polarize the Generator - 800 Gas

Now that I fiiiinaly have ole Betsy running, I've been told several different ways to polarize the generator. Either I don't have the gauges all wired up correctly or I don't have any output on the charging circuit. The amp gauge does't budge one bit when it's running. Someone told me this way to polarize the genny -- while it's running, briefly, very briefly, jumper between the A and F poles on the genny. Anyone know if that's accurate?

Thanks in advance...~Steve

No. You polarize with battery connected, engine not running.

If it is a type A system, momentarily jumper from hot battery source (BAT on regulator) to ARMature on generator
