1030Case from the late 60"s and the Kuhn speed rake, 2016 , make a great team. Why didn't the have these rakes 30-40 years ago?

Bruce, great pictures and nice looking hay. As for the rakes they did not want us to get done quick. Our old case rake on steel wheels would move very fast till dad came home. Jerry for Ohio

Well Bruce , dad bought his first 3 pt. mounted twin wheel rake in 1981. It was a Gehl WR308 ,I thought I died and went to heaven !!! TWO windrows at a time AND driving 8 mph. At times who knew you could do this ? They are sure a big step forward in hay raking.

we got our first 8 wheel 3pt v-rake in 1977, other than it being low capacity it worked well, 8-10 mph on my 1370,, a bit of over kill but it was what I had with 3pt then, I still use a 10 wheel 3pt hy-cap one

Nice 1030 and rake, looks like a easy to use and nimble rake. Looks like you have a good crop there.

I grew up running an old farmhand wheel rake with teeth that were bolted to the outside of the wheel, what a piece of $!%$. We also used some old rope pull dump rakes, then in the late 80's dad bought a 36' hydraulic rowse dump rake, what an improvement. In the late 90's he bought this H&S 16 wheel rake, it works very well and we have had no trouble with it over all these years.

You have a bit of an over kill going there. We pull a 16 wheel rake with a DC, and I thought that was a perfect pair.

Soooo.... here's a question for you. We used to bale hay (small square) probably been 15-20 years since the last bale ran through our NH baler. Still have the hay stuff, just don't use it anymore. Anyway, we used an Oliver side delivery rake. I have never been around one of those "wheel rakes", if that's what you call them, and especially not ever around a "V wheeled rake". So tell me if my assumption is correct in that a V shaped wheel rake merges all of the windows into one, or what's the idea there? Never seen one work. I have seen a few here and there, just never been close enough to see what's coming out the end.

"V" rakes like I have are great for putting two windrows together fast and uniform, main use for me is for a round baler, you have to have a uniform correct size to make them a dream to run and to make uniform bales, they can be adjusted with the pull of pin to change windrow widths and they follow rough ground better and you can rake 8-10 mph with ease, with either baler style round or square by throwing two together in one pass you save half of the travel for the baler

I mow with a mounted set of sickle bars, and baled with a 271 New Holland baler when I took this picture. This rake will rake a 24 wide swath, and in lighter hay, that isn't enough windrow to hardly bale, but in heavy hay, you have to sit narrower. The hardest part with any V rake is sharp corners. I never figured out how to make them clean.

yes they do not like sharp corners,,, I cut round and round and make square corners,, to make it easy and clean I rake the corners when I am done with the field then with the baler I bale the ends first,, makes the urning easy and cleans up all the hay
