Case 60's engine serial number

Hello all...Just pulled the sleeves out my gas Case. I want to make sure the replacements are correct. Looking at the block, I cannot find model #. The plate below distributor, is blank on the Model line, but has 2040203 as a Serial# line. The color is orange, so it came out of a tractor or combine. Am I missing another area to look? Is the serial # enough to fiqure out the engine manufacture history?

The engine was taken out of either a combine or tractor, and put into 580 backhoe. According to the bore, it seems to be a 188 Gas. Case parts books do not list this serial# this low. That is why I am puzzled. Almost seems that some old parts books are required.
